Salt air corrosion and tropical storms keep roofing demand steady on Hawaii Island, but this contractor was capturing almost none of it online. The island’s two distinct markets, the sunny Kona side and the rainy Hilo side, meant a single generic campaign would never rank well in both.
The contractor relied on word of mouth and a few directory listings, and was losing larger replacement jobs to competitors who showed up first in search.
Our approach
We split the strategy by region, building separate, locally relevant pages for the west and east sides of the island so each could rank for its own "roof repair" and "roof replacement" searches. We targeted the high-intent terms that signal a real job, not just informational queries.
We strengthened the contractor’s local presence with citations and reviews, and earned links that built the authority competitive contractor terms require.
Separate Kona-side and Hilo-side service pages
High-intent repair and replacement keyword targeting
Local citations and review generation
Storm-season and salt-air-corrosion content
Link building for contractor authority
The results
Within five months the contractor reached the top three for 24 of 32 target keywords across both sides of the island, and ranked first for several high-value replacement terms.
Organic leads grew 231% year over year, and the regional approach meant the contractor was finally competitive in both the Kona and Hilo markets at the same time.
